In both my personal and professional life as a physician, I’ve been working with the LGBTQIA+ community for more than fifteen years. Notably, I served on the board of Doorways, a housing and healthcare service for people living with HIV/AIDS, from 2010-2020, was Chairperson of the Board for four years, and was granted the Michael Edlin Award from that organization in 2020. I’ve led numerous LGBTQ+ focused initiatives and associate resource groups in my time working in hospitals and private industry. I’m also active in the St. Louis Sex Positive community, and my practice is affirming for a wide range of lifestyle choices. We offer PrEP, discrete STI screening, and affirmation for those with unique relationship circumstances. Truth is, I’m still learning a lot, every day. I’m a cisgender straight man, and my lived experience doesn’t reflect that of the patients I serve. But I listen to my patients and learn a lot from them, and try every day to do a little bit better job supporting this community which I love.

Midwest Gender-Affirming Care Guide
More
7.1 Gender Clinics & Centers
7.2 Hormone Replacement Therapy
Throughout the Midwest region of the United States, there have been numerous restrictions to accessing gender-affirming care. This guide aims to highlight resources that are still available for people to negate the adverse health consequences associated with limiting gender-affirming care. This list is not comprehensive, nor does it endorse the specific providers and clinics, its function is to allow a starting place for people to discover what options might be out there. Additionally, even if a service is listed as ""no"", that service may still be provided but it is just not advertised online. Individual research is encouraged to make sure that a provider or clinic is right for the type of care they are interested in. Each of the tabs is organized by state, and within the states, all of the resources are sorted by zip code to easily search for local resources. A legislation tracker is provided that lists bills supporting gender diverse people in green, and ones that may harm gender diverse people in red. This is to gain a foundational understanding as to why particular states may provide a greater number of resources or support for people seeking gender-affirming care.

"You know that we want you to be healthy and safe. While we are creating this site for you, we are also doing this weekly post on health care. While it’s nice to have a list, in these posts we can also give you a few details on what each of the organizations we post actually do. This week we are covering the __resources in Illinois, Indiana and Iowa__ for Transgender, Non-Binary, and Gender Non-Conforming Care. Many resources are, to their credit, creating comfortable places for routine and proactive health maintenaince as well as interventionary health care. We will try to highlight what is offered in each case. If you still can’t find the health care you need, drop us a note on FB (B.UR.SLF LLC), instagram/ twitter @burslfllc or email burslfllc@gmail.com and we will see what we can do to help."
