Planned Parenthood provides and advocates for high-quality and affordable sexual and reproductive health care and is the nation’s largest provider of sex education. Planned Parenthood is made up of many separate non-profit organizations across the country. While these organizations are tied by a central mission — to protect access to sexual and reproductive health care and education, no matter what — they are separate entities.
Planned Parenthood Federation of America (PPFA) is a 501(c)(3) charitable organization that supports independently incorporated Planned Parenthood affiliates, which operate nonprofit health centers across the U.S. PPFA works to educate the public on and advocate for issues of sexual and reproductive health.
Planned Parenthood affiliates are separately incorporated 501(c)(3) charitable organizations that operate nearly 600 nonprofit Planned Parenthood health centers providing essential care to 2.1 million patients annually. Planned Parenthood affiliates are trusted sources of primary and preventive care for people of all genders in communities across the country. One in three women in the United States has visited a Planned Parenthood health center. The majority (more than 70%) of Planned Parenthood patients have incomes at or below 150 percent of the Federal Poverty Level (FPL). This includes Planned Parenthood – St. Louis Region and Southwest Missouri and Planned Parenthood Illinois.
Planned Parenthood Global is a 501(c)(3) charitable organization formed as the international arm of Planned Parenthood Federation of America. Planned Parenthood Global works to advance the health and rights of all people, working tirelessly to combat inequities in historically marginalized and under-resourced communities.
Planned Parenthood Action Fund is a separate nonprofit membership organization tax-exempt under section 501(c)(4). The Action Fund engages in educational, advocacy, and limited electoral activity, including grassroots organizing, legislative advocacy, and voter education. Like Planned Parenthood Federation of America, many Planned Parenthood affiliates have related 501(c)(4) local organizations.
