Our professional, supporting, and student members engage in clinical and academic research to develop evidence-based medicine and strive to promote a high quality of care for transsexual, transgender, and gender-nonconforming individuals internationally. We are funded primarily through the support of our membership, and through donations and grants sponsored by non-commercial sources. Mission: To promote evidence based care, education, research, public policy, and respect in transgender health. Vision: We envision a world wherein people of all gender identities and gender expressions have access to evidence-based healthcare, social services, justice and equality. Goals and Tasks As an international interdisciplinary, professional organization, the World Professional Association for Transgender Health (WPATH) will work to further the understanding and treatment of gender dysphoria by professionals in medicine, psychology, law, social work, counseling, psychotherapy, family studies, sociology, anthropology, sexology, speech and voice therapy, and other related fields. WPATH provides opportunities for professionals from various sub-specialties to communicate with each other in the context of research and treatment of gender dysphoria including sponsoring biennial scientific symposia. WPATH publishes the Standards of Care and Ethical Guidelines, which articulate a professional consensus about the psychiatric, psychological, medical, and surgical management of gender dysphoria and help professionals understand the parameters within which they may offer assistance to those with these conditions.

Trans Affirming
Recognizing the great obstacles faced by low/no-income queer & trans individuals who seek to change their legal name and/or gender marker, this collective of non-attorneys seeks to share knowledge gained from firsthand experience to demystify the legal process and support pro se petitioners logistically, financially, and emotionally. STL Name & Gender Marker Change Mutual Aid provides information on step-by-step processes based on public information and lived experiences (not legal advice) from others on what worked and did not when getting their name and gender marker legally changed in St. Louis City, St. Louis County, Missouri, and Illinois. The organization also offers name / gender marker change pop-up clinics and tables at events. __UPDATE (08/19/2024):__ Missouri residents, please read the [PROMO update](https://promomissouri.org/mo-dor-secretly-changes-gender-marker-procedure/) as many of the documents on this site are no longer accessible/accepted by state agencies.

"Trans Lifeline is a 24/7 hotline available in the U.S. and Canada staffed by transgender people for transgender people. Trans Lifeline volunteers are ready to respond to whatever support needs members of our community might have." They also offer microgrants for Name Changes and Gender-Affirming Hair Removal (GAHR): "__Name Change Microgrants__ Name Change Microgrants help trans folks cover the costs of updating the name and/or gender markers on legal documents, like driver’s licenses and birth certificates. Updated legal documentation is critical for accessing gender-specific services and protecting against anti-trans discrimination. This microgrant is offered every month from the 1st-14th. __GAHR Microgrants__ Electrolysis, laser hair removal, and other permanent hair removal medical procedures are proven to increase quality-of-life and safety benefits for people who experience transmisogyny: the specific oppression directed towards people perceived as trans feminine. Our GAHR Microgrants help pay for the cost of these procedures."
