Description

Services include:

  • Patient education and discussion of possible gender expression options. When appropriate, determining the best transition plan for each person.
  • Referrals to our psychologists and therapists in the community for gender dysphoria, low self-esteem and other issues; and psychiatric evaluation and treatment for depression, anxiety, eating disorders, PTSD and other complex mental health conditions.
  • Voice and speech therapy
  • Assistance navigating issues around gender identity in school systems
  • Referrals to community resources and support groups that empower parents and guardians
  • Psychiatric services including evaluation and management of mental health issues
  • Education regarding gender dysphoria and possible treatments Referral to surgeons with particular expertise in gender affirmation surgery for patients 18+
  • Support letters for gender marker and name change and legal referrals

"Our mission is to provide care to kids and young adults who identify as transgender, gender non-conforming, non-binary or genderqueer. Our team includes providers in psychology, psychiatry, endocrinology and adolescent medicine, among other professionals who focus on transgender health. We aim to make every patient feel heard and valued."

Update as of September 11, 2023 In a media statement from Washington University School of Medicine:

Washington University physicians will no longer prescribe puberty blockers or cross-sex hormones to minors for purposes of gender transition. Patients who are currently receiving this care through the Washington University Transgender Center at St. Louis Children's Hospital will be referred to other providers for these services. The Center will continue to offer other services, including education and mental health support for all patients, and medical care for patients over the age of 18.

    We offer appointments at the following times: Tuesday: 8:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. at the Children’s Specialty Care Center in west St. Louis County at Mason Road and Interstate 64 Wednesday: 8 to 11:30 a.m. at St. Louis Children’s Hospital
